YOU DON'T LOOK 40, CHARLIE BROWN

CBS 02/02/1990

The "Peanuts" characters celebrate their 40th anniversary in the comic strips - and their 25th anniversary on television. Michelle Lee hosts the program, which is highlighted by animated sequences that combine new footage with scenes from previously aired cartoons. These montages are set to original songs by Desiree Goyette, recounting Charlie Brown's anxiety on the baseball diamond, a Halloween vigil for the Great Pumpkin and Snoopy's jubilation at mealtime. More animation is framed by new renditions of "Little Birdie," a paean to Woodstock sung by Joe Williams; "Joe Cool," B.B. King's salute to Snoopy; and pianist David Benoit's tribute to "Linus & Lucy." Also featured is a profile of Charles Schulz; reflections by animator Bill Melendez and cartoonist Cathy Guisewite; clips from the eight-part mini-series "this Is America, Charlie Brown"; and, from the 1973 "Hallmark Hall of Fame" production of the musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," Bill Hinnant's interpretation of "Suppertime."
